The Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office provides a safe space for faculty, students, staff and affiliates to confidentially discuss work-related issues, academic concerns, clarification of policies and many other concerns and issues. The office is independent of University administration and the Ombuds Officers are not authorized to accept notice on behalf of the University.

Our purpose is to help promote civility, mutual respect and ethical conduct, and to identify ways to prevent disruptive conflict by alerting the administration to policy issues and to recommend changes in University practices. We adhere to the Standards of Practice of the International Ombuds Association (IOA) and are required to maintain an active membership with the IOA. We are skilled in active-listening, mediation, negotiation, facilitation, conflict coaching and other resolution techniques.
