The Ombuds Office is here to serve as a confidential, informal and impartial resource for faculty, students and staff who may have a University related concern or problem. Our office is independent of University administration. The Ombuds Officers are skilled in active-listening, mediation, negotiation, facilitation, conflict coaching and other conflict resolution techniques. Communication to the Ombuds Officers does not constitute notice to the University.
Columbia University's Ombuds Officers are members of the International Ombuds Association (IOA) and adhere to their ethical guidelines and standards of practice and have earned the credential of Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner. Those who wish to learn more about this professional organization and to read its Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice can consult the IOA.
